MOUNTAIN
BIKING IN SOUTH AFRICA
For mountain biking enthusiasts, South Africa
is a mecca of spectacular and exhilarating South African mountain
bike trails for both the novice and the experienced.
There are numerous cycling routes all over
South Africa ranging from several hours to mountain bike tours
of several days.
Close to Johannesburg, is the Magaliesberg
Mountains, where biking trails offer spectacular views.
For true remote wilderness, mountain biking
through the Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu Natal is unsurpassed.
The magical indigenous forests of Knysna
are a cool and tranquil place to cycle and 15km outside of
Knysna is the Hamtini Mountain Bike Trail.
Table Mountain, in Cape Town, offers a challenging
ride and the view from the top is well worth the effort. Lush
valleys, cool streams and unique flora and fauna are some
of the sights you will be treated to along the way. Other
options are mountain bike routes through the Cape Winelands
and around the spectacular cliffs of the Cape Peninsula. Near
Swellendam, the De Hoop Nature Reserve offers an interesting
and relatively easy trail whilst nearby are several more strenuous
routes.
Mountain bike tours visit the undeveloped
Cape West Coast and the remote Cederberg Mountains.
Many magnificent trails
traverse the dramatic mountain terrain and lush valleys of
