ITINERARY

Day 01 : Afternoon departure from Johannesburg to Mpumalanga. Overnight at a lodge in Hazyview.
Days 02 and 03 : Early morning departure to the Kruger National Park. This trip is not the typical group tour that allows only one day in the park. There is plenty of time to appreciate the abundant fauna and birdlife and not only the “Big Five”. Sleeping inside the park gives you the true feeling of the African bush, with its night sounds and star studded skies.

Enjoy two days of morning and afternoon safaris in an air-conditioned minibus in this vast and magnificent park protecting the largest variety of mammals and birds in Africa.

Day 04 : Depart to Zululand and the iSimangaliso (St Lucia) World Heritage Site. Our accommodation for the next two nights is located in the dunes between the Indian Ocean and the lake. Afternoon walk on the beach or snorkeling in the bay. Overnight in cabins with two bedrooms sharing a bathroom.
Day 05 : Cruise or kayak (supplement for kayak) on Lake St Lucia to observe hippopotomus, crocodiles and the abundant birdlife. Walks at the lake shore with the possibility of spotting various antilope, relax on the beach or snorkel(bring own equipment) at low tide.
Day 06 : Ukuhlamba Drakensberg Mountains, Unesco World Heritage Site.
Visit a Zulu Cultural Village for an introduction to the history and traditions of this fascinating people. Continue to the spectacular Drakensberg Mountain range with its wealth of ancient San rock art and the two highest peaks in South Africa.
Accommodation: Injisuthi in two bed roomed chalets sharing a bathroom.
Day 07 : Walk to Battle Cave, with its ancient San Rock Art. (5 hours). The area protects the largest antilope, the Cape Eland as well as a wealth of other fauna and flora.

Day 08: Depart to Durban for a flight to Port Elizabeth. Pick up and continue to
the Tsitsikamma National Park, unique, not only because of its outstanding beauty but also because it protects both marine life as well as terrestrial fauna and flora.

Day 09: Hike through stunning indigenous forest along the coast to a waterfall that tumbles into a pool on the edge of the ocean. We also hike to the mouth of the Storms River. Along the way we may encounter some of the beautiful birds, monkeys and mammals that inhabit the forest as well as whales, dolphins and Cape Otters.

Day 10 : Depart to Plettenberg Bay and take an optional sea kayak excursion in the bay with the possibility of seeing seals, dolphins and whales (June to November). Continue to the seaside town of Hermanus, probably the best place in the world for land based whale watching. (July to November) In season, we will take a walk along the cliff path to observe the whales.

Day 11 : Following the magnificent cliff road past Betty’s Bay, we stop at a colony of African Penguins. We continue to the spectacular wine region visiting the old towns of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. We stop for a wine tasting and cellar tour at one of the historic estates with its beautiful Cape Dutch Manor House.

Day 12 : The day is spent exploring the Cape Peninsula, stopping in the fishing port of Hout Bay with an optional boat excursion to visit a seal colony (R 35) weather permitting. We also visit the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens with its beautiful proteas and indigenous flora as well as the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, the south westerly most tip of the African continent.

Day 13 : Weather permitting, we will take the cable car up Table Mountain (700m) with option to hike down. From the summit, enjoy panoramic views of Cape Town, the mountains and the ocean. Afternoon city tour of the historic centre and the colourful Cape Malay quarter.

Day 14: Optional extra activities: Morning at leisure to visit the Waterfront and its many shops, aquarium and restaurants or to take a trip to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for more than 20 years. Transfer to the airport according to flight departure time.

Budget 18 Day Overland Explorer Johannesburg to Cape Town (RADR07)

Meals:
The food is healthy and every endeavour is made to suit all tastes, and we make as much use of local procedure as possible We include coffee and tea, as well as fruit juice at breakfast, but all alcohol and soft drinks are for your own expense. All braai's and breakfasts are provided by us, but not meals en route to and from the area of the tour.

Various brands of trucks, vans, Land cruisers and Unimogs, all chosen for their practicality and reliability they seat up to 17 clients depending on the application

Group Size and Age:
Groups usually numbers between 6 and 17 clients. By travelling in small groups it means that we don't invade campsites and can avoid wasting time in constantly having to wait for people. It also enables us to maintain a far more personal service for our clients. From our experience our groups are normally made up of individuals, couples and sometimes groups of friends aged between 18 and 55 years. The sheer physical and youthful mentality, which prevails on these tours, makes them generally unsuited to anybody over the age of 55 years

DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG - BUSH CAMP
We depart in the morning to travel the scenic road to Mpumalanga. Along the way we visit Dullstroom, traverse Robbers Pass and spend time at the quaint historic town of Pilgrim's Rest, We also visit Bourke's Luck Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon. Thereafter we wind our way down the escarpment to the Lowveld bushveld where we overnight in our well appointed BUSH CAMP. Being adjacent to the Kruger Park, the tented Camp is tastefully designed, totally blends in with the environment, and offers comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, a refreshing swimming pool, and stunning views over the surrounding bush. Dinner tonight is cooked on the open fire. D
DAY 2: BUSHVELD CAMP
We start the day with the traditional coffee and rusks, before setting off on a game walk. We walk for approximately 3 hours in search of game, stopping regularly to learn more about the ways of the bush. A Drifters guide and tracker lead all walks. Return to camp for a late morning brunch after which it's time to relax around the pool and to enjoy the camp. In the afternoon we conduct an open vehicle game drive, which develops into an extensive night drive, being in the bush at night provides us with the opportunity of viewing nocturnal animals, otherwise not normally seen. This evening we enjoy a hearty bush braai and again fall asleep to the sounds of the wild. Brunch D
DAY 3: HAZYVIEW
A leisurely start, we travel through the rural Bushbuck ridge area to the sleepy settlement of Hazyview, where we stay in a log cabin spectacularly situated on stilts in indigenous subtropical forest on the banks of the Sabie River.  This afternoon we will have time to relax at the bird hide, or enjoy swimming and forest walks. DAY 4: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
Leaving Hazyview early, we travel the short distance to the world-renowned Kruger National Park, here we spend the entire day viewing animals from the high vantage point of our well-equipped truck.  We enjoy a picnic lunch and then a night in one of the park's rest camps. B L D
DAY 5-6: SWAZILAND/ZULULAND
Travelling south through the Kingdom of the Swazi, our journey takes us into an area of spectacular scenery, and past numerous traditional homesteads and curio markets, then we enter Zululand, the area once ruled by the famed Shaka Zulu, a region of Game Reserves and impressive sugar cane fields.
We spend the next two nights at camp situated in the sand forest on our private game reserve adjoining the World Heritage Site of St Lucia. During our stay we will do a game walk on the reserve and will conduct a game drive in open vehicles, We also enjoy Zulu cultural experience.

DAY 7: DOLPHIN COAST  
 A short drive today, we travel to one of the world's finest coastlines, where the unrelenting waves of the Indian Ocean continuously pound deserted beaches. We stay literally on the beach. Our time here will be spent soaking up the sun and simply enjoying the beach and warm ocean. Tonight we enjoy a traditional fish braai on the Inn's patio.

DAY 8 - 9: DRAKENSBERG
After a visit to the holiday city of Durban, where we have the option of visiting the Ushaka Marine World or exploring the Golden Mile and the traditional market, we travel back inland to the majestic Drakensberg mountain range, "Barrier of Spears". (Lunch today will be own expense in Durban.)
On reaching the foothills we transfer to a 4X4 vehicle, and then enjoy an exciting drive on mountain tracks to where we spend two nights..  We will spend time hiking and exploring the wonders of this National Heritage Site.  Pony trekking is also available. B L D

DAY 10: LADYBRAND
After a 4 x 4 transfer back to our vehicle, we cross the Oliviershoek Pass to view the turquoise waters of Sterkfontein Dam, then on through the Golden Gate National Park, well known for its towering sandstone cliffs and wealth of unique wildlife. Lunch today will be own expense in the artful little village of Clarens, clients will have time to explore the art galleries and other unique attractions. This night will be spent on a farm near the town of Ladybrand and we enjoy a traditional "braai". B D
DAY 11 - 12: KAROO
Exploring lesser-known gravel roads, we head into the dry Karoo interior.  We will travel via quaint and remote farming villages including Nieu Bethesda. Our home for the next two nights will be in stone cottages on a traditional farmstead nestled against the Sneeuberg Mountains. During our stay here, we will enjoy an extensive walk in the mountainous terrain, home to a variety of interesting plants animal and bird life. B L D
DAY 13 -14 - 15: GARDEN ROUTE
An early start, we head for the pioneer town of Graaff-Reinet where we spend time visiting the various museums, strolling around the town, meeting the locals and admiring the unique architecture. We then cross the mighty Outeniqua Mountains, barrier between the dry interior and the lush coastal Garden Route area. Our days here will be spent exploring this renowned region and its many attractions. We will walk in the forest in search of the elusive Knysna Lourie, we will travel to the Tsitsikamma coastal National Park where we will walk part of the acclaimed "Otter Trail". On our return journey, those with suicidal tendencies may try the world's highest bungi jump at 216 meters or clients may choose a sea kayak trip. (Own expense).  We will visit sun-kissed beaches, spend time in the old woodcutter town of Knysna and will enjoy a boat trip around the Knysna Lagoon and through the Heads in search of dolphins and whales (weather permitting). One lunch and one dinner will be own expense.  B D
DAY 16 - 18: CAPE TOWN
Leaving Knysna early, we follow the "Whale Route" around the Hottentots Holland Mountains. Arriving in the Sea Point in the "Mother City" of Cape Town in the late afternoon. Cape Town is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and we will spend two days visiting Cape Point, Hout Bay, the Waterfront, secluded beaches, a wine farm and many more highlights. We will also hike up Table Mountain. (Lunches and dinners in Cape Town are own expense). B


This tour ends at 16h00 on day 18. If arranging an onward flight on this day, please allow time for an airport transfer and for check-in procedures (up to three hours).

Inns, log cabins, bungalows and rondavels.  Single clients may share accommodation with other clients.

Meals:
The food is healthy and every endeavour is made to suit all tastes, and we make as much use of local procedure as possible We include coffee and tea, as well as fruit juice at breakfast, but all alcohol and soft drinks are for your own expense. All braai's and breakfasts are provided by us, but not meals en route to and from the area of the tour.

Transport:
Various brands of trucks, vans, Land cruisers and Unimogs, all chosen for their practicality and reliability they seat up to 17 clients depending on the application

Group Size and Age:
Groups usually numbers between 6 and 17 clients. By travelling in small groups it means that we don't invade campsites and can avoid wasting time in constantly having to wait for people. It also enables us to maintain a far more personal service for our clients. From our experience our groups are normally made up of individuals, couples and sometimes groups of friends aged between 18 and 55 years. The sheer physical and youthful mentality, which prevails on these tours, makes them generally unsuited to anybody over the age of 55 years

Important Information
As our program must be projected so far ahead and our prices are therefore subject to exchange rate fluctuations, we reserve the right to surcharge without notice, although this is against our intentions. Any special extra excursions are for the client's expense. Seasonal Malaria precautions may be advisable and are locally obtainable. Game viewing on foot is difficult, so we also place importance on some of the smaller aspects of the bush. It can get very hot so suitable precautions against sunburn should be taken.
Our price includes all transport, food, coffee, tea, fruit juice at breakfast, accommodation, walks, game drives, entry fees and permits, group equipment and a professional guide.
The price does not include alcohol and soft drinks, curios, tips and meals whilst in transit to and from Johannesburg.

DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG - BUSH CAMP
We depart in the morning to travel the scenic road to Mpumalanga. Along the way we visit Dullstroom, traverse Robbers Pass and spend time at the quaint historic town of Pilgrim's Rest, We also visit Bourke's Luck Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon. Thereafter we wind our way down the escarpment to the Lowveld bushveld where we overnight. Being adjacent to the Kruger Park, the tented Camp is tastefully designed, totally blends in with the environment, and offers comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, a refreshing swimming pool, and stunning views over the surrounding bush.Dinner tonight is cooked on the open fire.D      
DAY 2: BUSHVELD CAMP
 We start the day with the traditional coffee and rusks, before setting off on a game walk. We walk for approximately 3 hours in search of game, stopping regularly to learn more about the ways of the bush. A Drifters guide and tracker lead all walks. Return to camp for a late morning brunch after which it's time to relax around the pool and to enjoy the camp. In the afternoon we conduct an open vehicle game drive, which develops into an extensive night drive, being in the bush at night provides us with the opportunity of viewing nocturnal animals, otherwise not normally seen. We leave our bush camp in the morning to travel the short distance to the world-renowned Kruger National Park where we spend the remainder of the day viewing animals from the high vantage point of our vehicle. DAY 4: HAZYVIEW
After breakfast and another extensive drive in search of the "Big 5" and variety of other animals that inhabit the Park, we exit and head for the sleepy settlement of Hazyview where we overnight in a spectacular log cabin built on stilts in subtropical indigenous forest right on the Sabie river and  offering swimming, bird hide and lovely forest walks. After a relaxed morning we depart to arrive in Johannesburg in the late afternoon. B
