an ideal destination – A warm, sunny climate, a vast
selection of excellent courses in stunning locations make
for the perfect golfing tour.
Perhaps the most famous golf course in South
Africa is the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City, home to
the the Nedbank Golf Challenge, that offers the largest first
prize of any tournament in the world.
South Africa has produced a number of international
golfing champions including Gary Player, Ernie Els and Retief
Goosen and considering the number and calibre of golf courses,
it is not surprising.

10 COURSES
Leopard Creek
Ranks as the top course in South Africa, and ranked 25th in
Golf Digest USA's list of top 100 courses outside the United
States, Leopard Creek is situated on the border of the world
famous Kruger National Park and uses the natural environment
to its advantage.
Gary Player Country Club
Possibly the most famous course in South Africa because it
is hosts the Nedbank Challenge, the Gary Player Country Club
at Sun City also features two holes that rank in Golf Online’s
list of the 500 best holes in golf. The course itself ranked
29th in Golf Digest's list of 100 best courses outside of
the USA.
The course is one of the longest in South Africa and certainly
one of the toughest. Sun City is also home to the Lost City
Golf Course, another Gary Player designed course
Wild Coast Country Club
Designed by the world-renowned Robert Trent Jones, the Wild
Coast Country Club course is set against the backdrop of the
Indian Ocean.
When the wind blows, as it sometimes does, the course can
be challenging.
Fancourt Hotel, Country Club and
Golf Estate
Located on the spectacular Fancourt Hotel, Country Club and
Golf Estate in the southern Cape, this is a world-class course
also designed by Gary Player. It is ranked 59th by Golf Digest
in the list of top 100 golf courses outside the USA.
Durban Country Club
Built on an old swamp surrounded by dunes, the course blends
into its surroundings, a short distance from the Indian Ocean.
The channels created by the dunes mean that the wind provides
quite a challenge. It is ranked 62nd by Golf Digest in the
list of top 100 golf courses outside of the USA.
Arabella Country Club
Arabella Country Club in the Western Cape has hosted the Nelson
Mandela Invitational since 2003, attracting many of the world's
top golfers, and entertainment celebritie. Designed by top
South African designer Pete Malkovich, the course was ranked
number-100 in Golf Digests list of the best courses in the
world outside of the United States. Bordering the largest
natural lagoon in South Africa, with the ninth, seventeenth,
and eighteenth running parallel to the water, the course provides
both a challenge and a superb setting.
Glendower Golf Club
The course has hosted the South African Open three times,.
Trees, water hazards and bunkers are plentiful.
River Club Golf Course
The exclusive River Club Golf Course in Sandton, Johannesburg
is accclaimed for its immaculate conditioning. However only
members and their guests have access.
George Golf Club
Situated not far from Fancourt, the George Golf club features
a beautiful course, populated with many trees. The front nine
features only one par-three hole, but the back nine has three
of them. Apart from George, only Durban Country Club and the
Wild Coast Country Club have par-three holes in the world's
top 500.
Pecanwood Golf and Country Club Estate
Bordering the Hartebeespoort Dam, this course designed by
Jack Nicklaus is set against the background of the spectacular
Magaliesberg Mountains.
When the course was opened in 1998, it was voted best new
course of the year by Golf Digest.
These are just a few of the many wonderful
golf courses around South Africa. Furthermore, for non golfing
