itinerary combines our most scenic and interesting hiking trails
with comfortable en suite accommodation in the best locations.
The hikes have been carefully selected in order to offer contrast
and variety. They encompass mountain, bushveld and coastal scenery,
local culture, history and architecture, breathtaking waterfalls
and local fauna and flora.
Whilst still visiting all the popular attractions of South Africa,
this tour offers an active alternative to the classic coach
tour. It also includes some of more remote and most magnificent
sites such as the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains and the
breathtaking Wild Coast.
This tour can be adapted to a self drive
tour with local guides in each location.

Day 1
A mid morning depart from Johannesburg to Golden Gate Highlands,National
Park, which takes its name from the colours of the surrounding
rock cliffs. We conduct an afternoon walk in the park with
the possibility of discovering a variety of fauna that one
would not find in the Kruger region such as black wildebeest,
springbok and eland.

Day 2
We head to the Ukahlamba Drakensberg Park, a UNESCO world
heritage site for culture and nature. Here one finds ancient
rock art from the San people, the awe-inspiring Amphitheatre
formation, tumbling waterfalls and indigenous forests. From
the base of the chain ladder we hike to the top of the Amphitheatre.
This hike offers breathtaking views.

Day 3
We hike in the Royal Natal National Park offering magnificent
views of the Amphitheatre and rock art.

4
We depart early, to arrive in the late afternoon on the Wild
Coast. Due to its remoteness, this is one of the least visited
but most beautiful areas of the country, birthplace to Nelson
Mandela and many other well known figures in South African
history.

Days 5 and 6
The next two days are spent in an area with some of the most
spectacular walks in the country. We walk along the edge of
a cliff affording magnificent views of the Indian Ocean, to
a waterfall tumbling directly into the sea. We pass through
authentic Xhosa villages and discover the culture of this
fascinating people.

Day 7
Depart to Zululand passing through Durban en route. The next
two days are spent in the village of St Lucia, in the Isimangaliso
Wetland Park, a UNESCO world heritage site lying between the
Indian Ocean and Lake St Lucia. The region encompasses 6 different
ecosystems protecting hippopotamus, crocodiles and a multitude
of other species.

Day 8
We walk through a variety of ecosystems including coastal
dune forests, swamps, savannah and finish at the beach. In
the afternoon, we take a boat cruise on Lake St Lucia to see
hippos, crocodiles and birds.

Day 9
We visit a cultural village for an introduction to the traditions,
dances and history of the Zulu people. Depart to Swaziland
stopping at a colourful Swazi market. Overnight at Milwane
Wildlife Sanctuary.

Day 10
A morning walk through the nature reserve starts the day with
the possibility of seeing a variety of animals. We depart
via the picturesque Piggs Peak entering back into South Africa
and arriving late afternoon at Seringa Lodge

11
After breakfast, we depart to the Mpumalanga Drakensberg escarpment
for spectacular views over the Blyde River Canyon, the third
largest and only green canyon in the world. Our walk takes
us through indigenous tropical forest, along cascading streams
and inviting pools, to a rare Tufa waterfall.

Days 12,13
Two days of morning and afternoon/evening safaris in an open
vehicle in a private lodge or a camp of the Kruger park. We
will also conduct a bush walk

Day 14
After the morning safari, road transfer, via the historic
city centre of Pretoria, to Johannesburg International Airport
for a flight to Cape Town. Transfer to your hotel. Traditional
dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 15
Today we follow a magnificent coastal road around the Cape
Peninsula. The first stop is the picturesque fishing harbour
of Hout Bay with an optional extra boat trip to a seal colony.
We continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. We conduct
several short walks notably from Cape Point to the Cape of
Good Hope and enjoy the dramatic views, fauna and flora of
this spectacular area. The day ends with a visit to a colony
of African penguins at Boulders beach, next to historic Simonstown,
headquarters of the South African Navy.

Day 16
The day begins with an optional extra cable car ride up Table
Mountain. Then we do a circular walk up Lions Head (650m)
which allows us a spectacular 360 degree panoramic view. After
lunch, we discover Cape Town’s historic sites and the
picturesque Cape Malay Quarter on foot. The day ends with
some free time to enjoy the Waterfront area, the historic
harbour, with many shops, restaurants, entertainment and aquarium.

Day 17
Today we explore the wine region which includes a tasting
on one of the estates and a walking tour of historic Stellenbosch.
This is South Africa’s second oldest town and is known
for its many buildings in the Cape Dutch style. Lunch in the
winelands. During the whale season, from june to November,
this tour will be shortened and we will spend half a day in
Hermanus, known as one of the world’s best land based
whale watching destinations.

Private Game Reserve, bordering the Kruger National Park and

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KRUGER NATIONAL
PARK AND PRIVATE RESERVES AROUND IT
• In the private reserves, the number of guests
is normally limited to approximately 20 guests, there are
far fewer vehicles at an animal sighting.
• Night drives are included in most private reserves
• In the private reserves it is usually possible to
leave the roads and follow animals through the bush, allowing
for a longer and closer sighting.
